The timing belts are a routine tuning and/or replacement depending on mileage, time or general wear and tear. CHARTS.

Materials

Tools

  • Metric Hex Key set
  • Torque Wrench
  • Frequncy Counter (Guitar Tuner)

1. Locate Belt Cover. (Figure 1: Close up of the timing belt covers)

2. Remove hex screws. (Figure 2: Required metric hex key set)

3. Remove Belt Cover (Figure 3: Timing belt covers with vertical and horizontal plates properly configured off the bike)

After removing all eight timing belt cover screws and the oil cooler, the belts should be exposed, wiggling the plate covers off requires a touch of finessing but is not too difficult.




4. Insure rear wheel is propped up and bike is in neutral.

5. With clutch engaged, adjust gear to higher setting (Gear: 4,5 or 6).

6. With clutch engaged, turn wheel until cams, valves belt indicate pistons are at TDC (Top Dead Center). Notches display on belt cover align with dimple and markings on belt roller gears, refer to (C, D, 20).

Horizontal Belt Adjustment: Take measurements from (23). Correct Frequency in chart below. Adjust belts to correct reading with (24) and/or (25).

Vertical Belt Adjustment: Take measurements from (22). Correct Frequency in chart below. Adjust belts to correct reading with respective rollar found near top vertical belt.
